Job Advertisement: Assistant at the Department of Public Health Sciences

The Department of Public Health Sciences was established on January 1, 2018, at the Faculty of Social Sciences and currently has around 70 employees.

We offer a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and internationally prominent research environment. The department houses two centers: the Center for Research on Health Inequalities (CHESS) and the Center for Social Science Research on Alcohol and Drugs (SoRAD).

The department provides education in public health sciences with a social science orientation at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. As a relatively newly established department, we have recently undergone a comprehensive development phase of our programs. In the autumn of 2020, our new international master's program in public health sciences began, while our new bachelor's program in public health sciences started in the autumn of 2022.

Job Responsibilities

As an assistant, you are part of the administrative staff at the department, playing an important role in supporting both teachers and students.

In this role, you primarily work alongside teachers in the department's various courses. The tasks mainly consist of assisting course coordinators with study administration and exam grading. Another central part of the role is to serve as a link between students and teachers by providing service and information, mainly via email and the learning platform Itslearning/Athena.

Examples of tasks include:

  • answering questions about examinations
  • assisting in resolving any technical issues related to examinations

  • participating in drop-in meetings with students via Zoom.

Other tasks may be added, such as participating in student recruitment or other administrative efforts.

The criteria applied in the selection process are the applicant's professional suitability and personal qualities in relation to the job responsibilities. Particular emphasis is placed on the ability to work carefully, responsibly, and in a structured manner, as well as the ability to work independently. Special importance is also placed on good collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively even under time pressure.

Since a large part of the work involves communication with students, course coordinators, and administrative staff, very good knowledge of Swedish is required, as well as a good ability to express oneself well in writing, especially in digital contexts. Experience with Itslearning/Athena is also a requirement.

Particularly meritorious is if the applicant is enrolled in advanced studies in public health sciences and has knowledge of public health sciences with a social science orientation.
